Savings round up - 9th March

The Iran war has caused a rebound in short term fixed rates with 1 Year Fixed seeing a strong increase with last weeks best buy now matched or bettered by four other providers who have launched or improved their rates today. Financial markets, having priced in two Base Rate cuts this year, the first expected next week, are now pricing in none at all and banks are adjusting to the expectation of higher rates for longer - good news for savers but less so for banks. Tandem have moved top of 2, 3 and 5 Year Fixed rates too and there's every chance they'll be challenged by others if the war, and expectations of Base Rate staying higher for longer, continues. Here's our round up of the leading providers and rates in each category:

Easy Access

Chase continue to provide the best buy at 4.50% - but a huge 2% of this is via a 12 month bonus rate. Coventry Building Society are next as they launch a 3 Access Saver which pays 4.25% but there is a 50 day interest penalty if savers withdraw more than three times in a year. Vida Savings are next paying 4.16% on their Double Access Account, where the rate drops to 2.50% after more than two withdrawals per year. Virgin Money pay 4.15% and their account is also limited to just two withdrawals per year. Shawbrook Bank pay 4.13%, which includes a 2.13% bonus. Cambridge Building Society's Double Access Saver, which is limited to two withdrawals after which a 120 day interest penalty applies, pays 4.10%. Cahoot and Kent Reliance both pay 4.05%. Hodge pay 4.01%, and have been joined by Charter Savings Bank who cut their rate to 4.01% too. 

Notice

Stafford Building Society's 180 Day Notice pays a best buy 4.26% - however only two withdrawals are permitted per Society year. Investec pay 4.15% for 95 Day Notice via Raisin. Vida Bank also pay the same rate for the same term. OakNorth pay 4.15% on their 95 Day Base Rate tracker which tracks Base Rate plus 0.40%. Aldermore Bank pay 4.13% on 95 Day Notice via Raisin. BLME pay 4.11% on 90 Day Notice and Close Brothers pay 4.10% on the same term.

Up to 1 Year Fixed

Al Rayan Bank pay a best buy 4.22% via Meteor Savings for 6 Months Fixed and Al Rayan pay 4.15% via Raisin for the same term. UBL Bank pay 4.15% too and LHV Bank pay 4.10% for 6 Months Fixed also. 

Kuwait Finance House pay a best buy 4.12% for 9 Months Fixed via RaisinAl Rayan Bank are next paying 4.10% via Meteor Savings for 9 Months Fixed. Al Rayan pay the same rate via Raisin and LHV Bank pay 4.10% direct too for 9 Months Fixed. 

1 Year Fixed

DF Capital pay a best buy 4.35% to move top of 1 Year. Tandem are next as they launched at 4.31% rate today, to topple MBNA who had led at 4.30%. Union Bank of India still pay 4.23% but were joined this morning by OakNorth. Chetwood Bank are next paying 4.22% and Al Rayan Bank continue to pay 4.21% via Meteor Savings, which is tied with UBL Bank. DF Capital pay 4.18% and there's four banks tied at 4.15%.

18 Month Fixed

Cynergy Bank remain top with both their 15 Month and 18 Month Fixed paying 4.20%. Union Bank of India pay 4.10% for 18 Months Fixed. Al Rayan Bank pay 4% via Meteor Savings alongside three others.

2 Year Fixed

Tandem move top of 2 Year paying 4.26%. They move above long term leader, Al Rayan Bank, who pay 4.20% via Meteor Savings. Castle Trust Bank increase to 4.18% at 8pm today to move ahead of Chetwood Bank at 4.17%. Furness Building Society, Cynergy and LHV Bank all pay 4.15%. Birmingham Bank cut to 4.13% but RCI Bank remain at 4.12% alongside Close Brothers.

3 Year Fixed

Tandem pay 4.26% on 3 Year too - moving them top ahead of Al Rayan Bank, who pay 4.22% via Meteor Savings. Chetwood Bank continue to pay 4.20% and OakNorth, Cynergy and Close Brothers remain tied at 4.18%. Birmingham Bank are just behind at 4.17%. RCI Bank pay 4.15% as do UBL Bank via Raisin and direct. Similarly Al Rayan Bank pay 4.15% via Raisin and direct too.

4 Year Fixed

Cynergy Bank remain best buy at 4.25% but Aldermore Bank are just behind at 4.20%UBL Bank are next paying 4.06% via Raisin and direct. Vanquis Bank are just behind at 4.05%. JN Bank are next at 3.99%.

5 Year Fixed

Tandem Bank make it three best buys as they launch at 4.37%, to move ahead of Chetwood Bank at 4.36%. Close Brothers stay at 4.35% and JN Bank remain at 4.31%. Cynergy Bank continue to pay 4.30% but Furness Building Society improve to 4.25%. Aldermore Bank 4.20% as do Castle Trust Bank. Birmingham Bank cut to 4.17%
