Savings round up - 11th May

Despite Base Rate being held and the odds being against a rise at the next meeting on 18th June, fixed rate bond pricing continues to improve with a market leading rate of 4.72% now available on 5 Year Fixed. This is completely at odds with where financial markets are pricing fixed terms which suggest that banks fear rates are going higher and are pricing up accordingly. This is good news for savers though with the opportunity to get some very attractive rates at the moment. The big question is - where's it all hedaing? The answer to that is nobody knows at the moment! It's so hard to predict where the Iran War is going, how long it will last, and what the outcome might be. Until there's some certainty on that, it's hard to call but it's difficult to see rates going significantly north from here, unless things get a lot worse. Here's our round up of the leading providers and rates in each category:

Easy Access

Chase remain best buy at 4.50% - but a huge 2% of this is via a 12 month bonus rate. Cynergy Bank's bonus saver is next paying 4.27% - but like Chase 2% of this is a 12 month bonus. Cahoot stay priced at 4.17% ahead of Vida Savings, who continue to pay 4.16% on their Double Access Account, where the rate drops to 2.50% after more than two withdrawals per year. Virgin Money pay 4.16% too and their account is also limited to just two withdrawals per year. Charter Savings Bank improve their rate to 4.16% - the only mover in the top ten. Family Building Society's Online Saver pays a competitive rate of 4.15%. Shawbrook Bank pay 4.13%, which includes a 2.13% bonus. Saga pay 4.11% but with 1.21% of this coming via a 12 month bonus of 1.21%. Cambridge Building Society's Double Access Saver, which is limited to two withdrawals after which a 120 day interest penalty applies, pays 4.10%. 

Notice

Stafford Building Society's 180 Day Notice is still the best buy paying 4.26% - however only two withdrawals are permitted per Society year. They've been matched by Oxbury Bank who pay 4.26% on their 180 Day Base Rate tracker which tracks the Base Rate plus 0.51%. Castle Trust Bank move up to third as they improve their 120 Day Notice rate to 4.20%. Chetwood Bank enter the notice market with rates of 4.19% on 100 Day Notice and 4.06% on 70 Day. Cynergy Bank is next with their 120 Day Notice rate paying 4.18%. Shawbrook improve their 45 Day Notice rate to 4.16%. StreamBank improve their 90 Day Notice rate to 4.15%Investec also pay 4.15% for 95 Day Notice - via Raisin. Vida Bank also pay 4.15% via Raisin for the same notice period.

Up to 1 Year Fixed

AlRayan Bank lead the way paying 4.36% for 6 Months via Meteor SavingsPerenna Bank pay 4.31% via Raisin AlRayan play a slightly lower rate of 4.30% via Raisin with Gatehouse Bank the best direct rate at 4.30%

Al Rayan Bank are the best buy for 9 Months paying 4.30% via Meteor Savings for 9 Months FixedKuwait Finance House pay 4.27% via Raisin with Zopa Bank paying 4.27% via Hargreaves Lansdown.

1 Year Fixed

AlRayan Bank pay a best buy 4.70% via Meteor Savings but have now been matched by GB Bank. UBL Bank are next paying 4.68%, after they improved their rate, alongside MBNA who also upped their rate to 4.68%. Kuwait Finance House pay 4.67% via Raisin and are matched by Kent Reliance. Birmingham Bank were also on the move improving their rate to 4.66%. AlRayan Bank pay 4.65% via Raisin and direct alongside Close Brothers.

18 Month Fixed

Chetwood Bank pay a huge 4.70% as they soar to the top of the best buys for 18 Months. Skipton Building Society are next paying 4.56% with Aldermore Bank paying 4.50%. United Trust Bank pay 4.45% on their 15 Month Fixed with Tesco Bank paying the same rate for 18 Months. Cynergy Bank improve their 15 and 18 Month Fixed rates - both up to 4.40%.

2 Year Fixed

GB Bank lead the way paying 4.70% as they overhaul Kent Reliance, who had led paying 4.69%. RCI Bank pay 4.68% and BACB pay 4.67% via RaisinStreamBank pay 4.65% as they improve their 2 Year rate. Close Brothers continue to pay 4.63% but Hampshire Trust improve their rate to 4.62%. Aldermore Bank pay 4.60% alongside Recognise Bank. 

3 Year Fixed

Oxbury Bank made a late move on Friday to take top spot paying 4.71%. They toppled GB Bank who pay 4.70%. Kent Reliance are just behind the pair at 4.66% with RCI Bank pay an improved 4.65% via Raisin wit AlRayan Bank paying 4.62% via Meteor Savings. Aldermore Bank are up to 4.61%, which moves them ahead of Charter Savings at 4.60%.  JN Bank pay 4.59% with Hodge Bank at 4.58% and Close Brothers at 4.57%

4 Year Fixed

Oxbury Bank move top of 4 Year paying 4.58% to nip ahead of JN Bank, who remain at 4.57%. Aldermore Bank are just behind them at 4.55% with RCI Bank paying 4.50%. There's a steep drop then to Cynergy's 4.25%.

5 Year Fixed

Afin Bank pay a market leading 4.72% as they move ahead of GB Bank and Market Harborough Building Society at 4.70%. Close Brothers remain at 4.67% and Chetwood Bank at 4.65%. Hampshire Trust Bank improve to 4.62% ahead of Aldermore Bank at 4.60% and JN Bank at 4.57%. Tesco Bank improve to 4.50% to enter the top 10.
