Savings round up - 29th June
29/06/2026
The Bank of England's decision to hold rates was no surprise but the 7-2 majority vote, with two in favour of a hike to 4%, has given hope to an increase to 4% at the next meeting at the end of July. We think that's unlikely and expect another split decision before a rise in September at the earliest. Financial markets are pricing in one increase to 4% before the year end but with December having the best odds in favour of this. What the decision has done is temper rate rises in the market. While we've seen some improvements on easy access pricing, fixed rates have started to fall. Granted the headline best buy rates are holding up but the providers queuing up behind those best buy rates have been quietly pulling back or withdrawing. This is a trend we expect to continue - that's not to say there will be a collapse in pricing. But we do expect to see some easing back on fixed rates over the summer, unless there's a negative turn of events in Iran or another global shock. Here's our round up of the leading providers and rates in each category:
Oxbury Bank have shot to the top of the best buys with a 5.01% rate. However, it includes a 1.50% variable bonus rate until 24th December, the first time we can recall the bonus rate being variable, and is only open to new customers. Revolut are paying 5% for easy access but given this is only until 4th December and capped at £25,000, we have excluded it from our tables.
