Shawbrook was founded in 2011 when the then RBS Special Opportunities Fund bought Whiteaway Laidlaw Bank from Manchester Building Society and combined it with Commercial First and Link Loans to create Shawbrook Bank. It listed on the London Stock Exchange before being acquired by a consortium led by BC Partners and Pollen Street Capital in July 2017

It has built a diversified range of lending activities , supported by one of the largest savings customer base of the new entrant banks, and made £94.4m of profit before tax in its half year results to 30th June 2021.
